INTIMATE VENUES: small spaces with big character

In our last journal post, MicroWeddings: an intimate affair, we covered what a micro wedding is and why we love them!

If you've decided that a MicroWedding is right for you, then your next question is probably where to start. Now, I should point out that the sooner you hire your planner, the more you get for your dollar AND the more cohesive your event will be. But we love starting with selecting your Venue!

Venues play an important role at the beginning of the process! Not only do they help set the right tone, but they also help you to know how many vendors you will need on your team. Maybe they have on-site catering and accommodations, or maybe you need to bring in everything from flatware to ceremony decor.

When it comes to weddings with 50 people or less, you will yourself with a different set of venues than someone with 150+ guests. We've put together just a few of our favorite spots in Central New York that have a lot of character, and are perfect for MicroWeddings!

With the advantage of having both an inside rental option at the main inn and two other iconic properties (Rowland House and E.B. Morgan House), the Inns of Aurora is a great option for couples looking for an elegant, relaxed and minimal-hassle occasion. They have also opened up an indoor ceremony space for winter weddings!

With a woodland chapel and a bistro-light lit reception space under the trees- you can let nature do most of the work of setting the scene for your day! Of course, they also provide gorgeous oriental rugs, seating, and place settings with a vintage/boho/americana style. The Kester Homestead has available slots in 2020 for their Elopement Soiree option, and also offer a package specifically for Small Weddings.

REDBARN 20 AT THE WINDRIDGE ESTATE We love RedBarn for their scenic property that comes with so many different options! While their main barn is great for larger weddings, we are a personal fan of the white stone barn for smaller gatherings. They are offering mid-week Petite Weddings, which include a two-night stay in their impeccably decorated farmer's cottage (hello salt-water pool afterparty!). Ask them about this option for your own little get-away!

THE FITZ, AT OH MY DARLING If you're looking for something in the heart of Syracuse, or with a little speakeasy flair, then this is your place. Oh My Darling is a crowd favorite for after work or pre-show dinner and drinks! Their semi-exposed walls and fun tiles (and delicious drinks) don't leave you wondering why, and The Fitz is just a flight of stairs below. How do they create a speakeasy theme? By having guests go to the coffee bar to order a specialty drink, where the barista tells them how to find the entrance.
